The Greater Denton Arts Council has served the North Texas community for over 45 years. Each year, over 550,000 visitors attend Arts Council sponsored theatrical performances, arts exhibitions, classes, tours, and festivals. Many of these events are presented at the Arts Council’s two flagship facilities – The Campus Theatre and the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center.
The Patterson-Appleton Arts Center
The Patterson-Appleton Arts Center (PAAC) is truly the arts engine of Denton. Built in 1929 and located between Denton’s Downtown Square and emerging innovation district, this historic building was originally the city’s steam power plant. Renovated in the 1980s, the Arts Center now offers two large galleries, art studio, dance rehearsal hall, and sculpture garden. The centerpiece of the venue is Festival Hall, a 5000 square foot event and exhibition space with soaring ceilings and original industrial hardware. Each year, the Council presents over 20 exhibitions and serves over 80,000 patrons. In addition, the Center serves as an event and meeting space for the Council’s 40 non-profit member organizations.
The Campus Theatre
The Campus Theatre, originally an Interstate Movie Theatre, was built in 1949. In 1990, the Campus Theatre was purchased by the Arts Council and re-opened as a central location for the performing arts groups in Denton. It is now home to the Denton Community Theatre, Music Theatre of Denton, and other performing arts organizations, which present over 100 performances annually. In 2010, the Campus Theatre was designated a Texas historical landmark.
The Campaign for the Arts
In 2015, the Arts Council launched a multi-year capital campaign to restore and renovate these iconic Denton landmarks. Now entering Phase 2 of the campaign, the Arts Council invites you to join us in these efforts.
