Celebrate the arts with the whole family during Family Days, Parent + Child Classes, Spring Break and Summer Art Camps

Every third Saturday of the month the Greater Denton Arts Council offers fun for the whole family! Come explore artwork with interactive games, story time, art-making activities, and more. Program led by education staff.

summer art camp

July 9 - 13, 2018
9:30 - 11:00 and 11:30 - 1:00

Ages 6-10 and 11-14
$65 - 75

This summer, kick your creativity into high gear at the Greater Denton Arts Council with art, guitar, and dance classes. All supplies provided, class size is limited. 

Campers attending two back-to-back classes should bring a sack lunch to eat between sessions. Tables will be set up in Festival Hall and staff will be on hand to help. Parents and gaurdians are not required to pick-up students in between sessions. 

On the last day of camp each class will have a presentation for family and friends to showcase what the campers have learned throughout the week. 

Art
Ages 6-10, 11:30 AM-1:00 PM
Ages 11-14, 9:30-11:00 AM
$75 Public; $70 Member

Get up close and personal with art this summer! Kids will spend time exploring the galleries, playing games, and creating artwork in the studio using a variety of media. While learning about different artistic genres, junior artists will discover and polish their unique creative vision.

All supplies provided.

Guitar
$70 Public; $65 Member

Ages 6-10, 9:30-11:00 AM

Discover the basics of acoustic guitar—including how to play melodies, bass lines, and chords in both solo and ensemble settings. Learn to make handmade instruments and use them to create songs and song effects. Guitar provided; children may bring their own instruments if desired.

Ages 11-14, 11:30 AM-1:00 PM

Discover the basics of acoustic guitar—including how to play melodies, bass lines, and chords in both solo and ensemble settings. Learn how to read guitar tablature, experiment with improvisation, and write original songs. Guitar provided; children may bring their own instruments if desired.

Dance
$70 Public; $65 Member

Ages 6-10, 9:30-11:00 AM

Get your body moving and grooving to the rhythm of your heartbeat. Students will learn the basics of creative movement as they imagine how to physically interpret experiences and emotions through leaps, spins, and twirls. In one day, dancers will transform from happy to mad, human to non-human. Please wear comfortable clothing or dance wear. Bring jazz shoes or sneakers. No cutoffs or skirts.

Ages 11-14, 11:30 AM-1:00 PM

Push your artistry further as your hone your skills in creative movement as well as classical and contemporary techniques. Combining routines with experiments in improvisational movement, dancers will refine their individual style. Please wear comfortable clothing or dance wear. Bring jazz shoes or sneakers. No cutoffs or skirts.
