Life & Legacy: A Vocal Recital by Styles of Artistry
Friday, November 2, 2018
7:00-8:30 p.m.
Patterson-Appleton Arts Center
$12 Public; $10 Member

In their debut performance, Styles of Artistry will present songs written by African American composers who have contributed to the art song repertoire and highlight themes of positivity, hope, love, and trust in their work. The song selection is inspired by Tyrone Geter’s exhibition which explores many of the same ideas through a visual narration of the black experience. Styles of Artistry cites Geter’s statement about his mother, “Sometimes she felt like she didn’t have no life,” as a rousing signpost by which they chose their repertoire.

Styles of Artistry emerged out of a friendship between two Texas Woman’s University alumni who share a passion for music. Their artistic pursuits are grounded in their ability to give a voice to lesser known works and works by new and upcoming composers.
