artist member: Kelly Stribling Sutherland
Kelly Stribling Sutherland, a graduate of California’s Art Center College of Design, works as a freelance illustrator from her home in Denton, Texas. She credits her love for children’s books and her admiration of fine artists – such as Chagall, Degas, Monet, Munch and many others – in shaping her style. Kelly remembers drawing on the box lids of her Madame Alexander dolls as a first surface to explore her creativity. Her first landscape at age four looked more like a bear, and so her love of whimsy began.
In Kelly’s commercial career, she created two Neiman Marcus Christmas catalog covers and also worked on campaigns for Nordstrom, Dayton’s, Marshall Field’s, Pier 1 Imports, the White House, the U.S. Naval Academy and many more.
Kelly is currently spreading her love for art to her elementary school students in Little Elm, Texas, where she has taught for 10 years.
