Graphite, colored pencil, watercolor on paper
50 x 30 inches
Artist Statement:
My work is often inspired by my lived experiences. Growing up as a queer child in a small, predominantly Christian town, it was a struggle to navigate for social acceptance.
“Supermarket Bros.” encapsulates a pivotal childhood memory in which my personal interests were spitefully challenged by my older brother. The final piece encapsulates the inner turmoil I had between my masculine and feminine attributes, creating an intriguing visual through its odd combination of bold imagery and symbols.
