Donita Lea knew she was destined for powerful creative works from an early age when she was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, and promised pain, treatments and ultimately deadlines. But she learned that individuals are more than the disease they are diagnosed with and more than the physical embodiment of their experiences. The spirit and power of hope transcend the hopelessness and despair of the human condition.
In the making of the 2023 - 2024 collection entitled “Hope,” Donita chose gouache and ink to capture the building of light and possibility from chaos and pain. Dramatic lines and layers of images and paint create depth and introspection of what lies beyond—what it possible.
The pieces shown in this collection hold symbolism to light’s powerful inspiration and healing. Healing of mind, soul and body. The power of believing and expressing that belief is her motive and inspiration.
