Artist Statement:
As a mixed-media painter primarily creating landscapes, I use a combination of experimental painting techniques alongside more traditional painting processes to explore the geological relationships that time has on the land. I use expressive mark-making and shape language throughout my pieces to convey the processes of erosion on Western landscapes.
There is much more to our landscape than we can see. Vast arrays of colors, shapes, and textures have been built into the land for millions of years. I continue to evaluate land in various ways, and this piece is based on a collage I compiled from microscopic samples collected from different geological formations in Oklahoma.
