  • Patterson Appleton Arts Center 400 East Hickory Street Denton, TX, 76201 United States (map)

What is the state of the Black Contemporary Black Church? Over the last several decades the Church in America particularly the Black Church has gone through profound transformations. “The Contemporary Black Church written by Jason Shelton makes the case that the story of this changing religious landscape needs to be told incorporating more data as it applies specifically to African Americans.

The Denton Black Film Festival Institute in association with author Jason Shelton is hosting a free community discussion and panel on the “State of the Black Church” exploring its findings and interviews with pastors, ministers and church leaders. Mr Shelton will share some of these findings with the audience and an outstanding panel that has been assembled to discuss the findings and respond to the question of where is the Black church today and what does its future hold! This will be a very important and lively discussion with deep ramification to the Black Church and Black culture.
