Discomfort exists in the cracks of humanity, influencing us to take action or remain complicit. As a multidisciplinary artist, I view my role as a necessary means to produce the human experience, emphasizing the need for people to be uncomfortable and disturbed. Exploring the experiences of different groups of people is important to my artistic process. This introspective nature has broadened my interpretations to include diverse subject matter. A running concept within my work is a process I describe as "fleshcore", which is an aesthetic and artistic process of utilizing technological interpretations of the human body and 'flesh' to create a piece about humanity. "Fleshcore" is central to my new media works as there is an element of artificiality to the human experience, which I attempt to question.
About:
Artists’ concepts often stem from experience and Iris Yves Vincent is no different. Raised in a conservative suburbia that was notorious for its all-star high school football team and bigotry, Vincent utilized art to express and heal. Especially being a queer transgender man, the American Southern culture polarized and radicalized the artist. This later influenced the imagery within his art and drive the artist to pursue New Media Arts at the University of North Texas. Alongside, Vincent pursues multiple mediums, including photography, performance art, media editing, and the drawn arts. Centering subjects around ideas of human rights, trauma, and personal experience. He believes in the progression of culture and artistic technologies, he thrives to interact with each viewer's emotions and procure curiosity.
