Something Esoteric, 2026

Cardboard, paper pulp, luminescent paint, fairy lights

Hello, my name is Lyen Nguyen (they/them), and I thank you for viewing my artwork.

The artworks that I most enjoy creating are born out of love. My driving force for the arts came from my desire to give my creative passion a visual and physical form. Tenderness and affection are what I gravitate toward to portray the most in my own personal works, which refer to the narratives and concepts I write, but the works I produce in academic and professional settings tend to revolve around my attachment to my community, a significant source of my fulfillment.

Stepping into the art discipline, I had aspirations to become an illustrator in the entertainment industry. Art and entertainment are often an overlooked aspect of everyday life, and they are disregarded for being a lesser area of concentration than more outwardly intellectual fields. This is how it is perceived, but the little moments of joy in the midst of the hectic day-to-day are vital to many people's well-being.

Through my time undergoing formal education and training, this dream evolved into something smaller scale. After discovering my love for sculpture, I still wish to promote the importance of the arts, but rather than through a mainstream perspective, it would be through facilitation and personal interactions with others. Sculpture itself lends itself to being something interactable and, consequently, personal. To be able to physically hold an object, turn it around, and see the amount of effort and love that was poured into something appeals to me greatly.

Through my art, I wish to express my passions and love as well as encourage other people through my works.
