Sebastien Hubiera, also known as, Dust Bunny, is a practicing multi-disciplinary artist from Austin, TX, and currently works within the Dallas-Fort Worth area studying New Media Art at the University of North Texas. Their work explores and expands upon their intersectional identity as a 1st generation, queer, Filipino-American through new media approaches, sculpture, photography, bodily movement, and drag. Identity operates as an intuitive invitation to radically redefine and re-contextualize meaning put in place by societal norms. In hopes of making sense of these experiences, Dust Bunny plays off distinguishable cultural forms and symbols as caricature (Bunny) while introspectively distorting those associations into intangible understandings of such (Dust). Dust Bunny playfully explores how cultural forms can be exaggerated, fragmented, and reassembled to reflect lived experiences that don’t fit within singular narratives. Guided by themes of synthetic beauty, personal mythology, modularity, self-eroticism, self-fetishism, and digital dimensionality, Dust Bunny creates a plurality in forms that respond to a higher call to reframe and look carefully upon identity, not as a fixed truth, but as something embracingly unstable, playful, self-authored, messy, erotic, and beautiful.
