Staring at the Sun, 2025
Foam, epoxy, acrylic enamel paint, wire, solar lighting
“We’ve all been told at least once not to stare directly at the sun. Staring at the Sun plays with that familiar warning, reimagining it as an invitation to look more closely at what we often overlook — the powerful, the radiant, and the essential.
Sunlight brings life to our planet. It helps flowers grow and ecosystems thrive. In this piece, I experiment with that energy, creating a surreal interpretation of the sun’s power. The work blends a sense of childlike wonder with a wacky postmodern twist, inviting viewers to reconsider the line between danger and beauty, curiosity and caution.”
Selected as a finalist for the Electric! Artist Stipend, sponsored by LSA Burger Co. and Interfaith Ministries of Denton.
About:
“My work is rooted in the soft, surreal nostalgia of growing up in the early 2000's, shaped by late night TV ads, hazy childhood impressions, and half dreamt thoughts before sleep. I’m drawn to the blurred space between memory and fantasy, and how those fleeting moments influence the way we perceive the physical world. Through sculpture, I transform dreamlike memories, personal experiences, and natural forms into tangible objects, inviting viewers to form their own emotional or imagined connections to each piece. I often explore the tension between organic and industrial, using material and form to give shape to the intangible.”
