Open Call for Art! - Intersections, Voices in Feminist Art
With an immersive installation-based exhibition, we’ll be exploring avenues of feminist thought through artwork uncontained by frames, walls, or pedestals. These installations will transform Gough Gallery into a space exemplary of modern and contemporary feminist thought that we hope provokes thought and discussion, particularly on themes of solidarity, community, and connection. Exhibitions Curator Caitlin Spencer has provided the following curatorial statement:
"Installation art breaks the plane of fixed walls and creates its own space, shaped by the artist's imagination and intention. Much like the freedom dreamers in our society, women have been at the heart of caring for their communities through social and political upheaval and injustice and who have fought for more space and more representation. This call for art explores the ways contemporary women artists and theorists use art and space-making to express and challenge their lived experiences in today's society and ever-changing world."
We invite both solo artists or teams of artists to apply for the show. Artists will be required to keep documentation of their process, both designing and installing their work, which will be included in the gallery alongside the final installation pieces. This can take the form of a sketchbook (physical or digital), journal, video, photography, etc., or some combination. Apply here! The deadline to apply is June 15 at 11:59pm.
