Sea Caterpillar, 2024

Paper craft, light

The sea caterpillar is a speculative creature that manifested from the dreams of an axolotl wishing to be a caterpillar. With the power to regenerate parts of its body, the axolotl transformed into a creature with the horns of a dragon-headed caterpillar and the leafy patterns of a Japanese emperor caterpillar.

About:

I create speculative creatures made from combinations of the unique features that belong to some of my favorite earthly creatures. I am fascinated by biodiversity, specifically in sea creatures that evolve to have whimsical, mesmerizing, and peculiar features that I celebrate in my art.
